Beaux Delights

Roussillon was the village we went to today and we weren’t disappointed as it was different from all others we have visited.

The buildings were predominantly reddish in colour and that is because Roussillon is situated in the Luberon Ochre hills where ochre was at one time produced and there are some very nice views of the ochre still in the hills

The village itself is very well maintained and there were numerous shops selling artisan products Lunch was interesting as we shared a pizza but no plates were brought to the table so they were requested only to be advised that if you wanted plates that would be an extra €4 - no thanks!

After enjoying a good look around Roussillon we moved approximately 12km back towards “home” and stopped at another village, Gordes.

Both these villages are recognized as being among “The most beautiful villages in France” and Gordes which has been built virtually into the side of a hill presented a lovely sight as we approached itWhile inside the village was also nice my view was that Roussillon had an edgeOur trip back via the A7 toll motorway was slowed by a significant hold up over the last 10 or so kilometres, in the same area as we experienced a day or two ago and I’m no traffic engineer but five lanes reducing down to three I would suggest might create problems.

An interesting article we saw on TV last night was queues and queues of hardened motorcyclists being blessed on the religious holiday by a bevy of priests we assume to hold them safe on the roads until the ceremony is repeated next year

Kms driven today: 171
