We are staying at Studio Les Chant de Cigales and as we went out for dinner tonight Sherry said that Cigales was almost certainly Cicadas in French. Sure enough a Google translate told us that Le Chant des Cigales is The Song of the Cicadas so everything makes sense now - Mr Valence wasn’t saying “seagulls” he was in fact saying “cigales”.
The sound of the penny dropping almost deafened us!
