Cathedral City

Driving through to Salisbury this morning we were able to listen to the Lions game on the radio, albeit with some difficulty due to the static.

From what I heard the ABs should have won by plenty but mistakes keep the Lions in the game and even according to the British commentators Poite lost his bottle when it came to the call at the end - man in front deliberately playing at the ball causing disadvantage to the opponent has always been a penalty!

From afar it would seem that NZ certainly didn't get the rub of the green over the series so despite the Press here saying a drawn series was a fair result, I struggle to agree.

Salisbury to us is the epitome of an English city - flat as with the River Avon running through the city.

It was bustling this afternoon with the square having its regular market as well as all the other shops, and there are certainly plenty, being well populated.

The walk from our B&B to the town centre (15 minute max) is along what is called the Town Path and gives a view of Salisbury Cathedral across the fields and as you get into the city it is through a park and then alongside a stream.

.

The Haunch of Venison sits on the corner of Minster St and was built in 1320 and as our reading suggests that it is good for a meal we have booked it for tonight's dinner.

Speaking of dinner we had a very nice meal at The River Cottage Canteen in Axminster last night - in fact we thought it was the nicest of the meals we have had when compared with the meals at Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant and The Stein Cafe and it was the cheapest!

The temperature in Salisbury today has been in the mid 20s and with the amount of walking we do in a day coupled with the heat the body starts to wilt as the day goes on - having said that we will only get fitter as we go on with our travels, yeah right.
