Another moving day

We left Botallack after breakfast in thick fog rolling in from the coast en route to Fowey which is situated on the south coast of the Lizard Peninsular.

After an hour or so driving we stopped at Truro to stretch and have a wander. Truro was pleasant without being spectacular, it being dominated by a cathedral and the main shopping street being cobbled.

Sherry struck up a conversation with a women shop assistant in a book store and lo and behold her son married a Kiwi and after a while the tug for home got too much for his wife to resist and the family moved to Auckland where they are building their new home in the Waitakeres - the women had visited NZ at least twice, the most recent being last summer and on that trip she says she fell in love with Te Aroha, go figure!

By the time we left Truro the temperature had got up to 25 degrees and it was a hot drive the last 25 miles or so to Fowey.

Fowey is a historic fishing town at the mouth of River Fowey and has been in existence since 1300. The streets are so narrow that driving through the town is a challenge of monumental proportions but it had to be done - we arrived outside our B&B which is situated right in the town centre on a one way street wide enough for one vehicle only and Sherry got out to see about parking.

As she did a delivery van came done the street behind me so I had to move on - weaving through the shopping area, pedestrians having to stand in shop door fronts otherwise they would be struck by the vehicle, the Peugeot's drive assist sensors were going off on both sides of the car, the sweat was flowing freely and frankly I had no idea where I was going or how I was going to get there.

After doing a circular route I ended up at the top of the street where the B&B was but I knew that even though a Sherry would be waiting outside for me it was pointless going back through the town so I followed signs to a parking area and using an inate sense of direction found my way back to her.

Our hostess then drove me to the car, I followed her to another car park which allowed overnight parking and we loaded the bags into her vehicle (she is a bit of a character - "you moving in" she asked when the final suitcase was placed in her vehicle) and then she drove to the B&B, weaving through the streets at a speed I couldn't contemplate!

We later walked to the local beach more out of curiosity than a desire to swim and begorrah was the water cold - I soon knew why there was the following sign outside a shop as we walked to the beach

Despite the cold water there were swimmers enjoying their day at the beach

"Help, a shark"

"Don't be silly lady, it's a shadow"

Th view across the river is very pleasant and there are some very nice homes along the Esplanade

On this trip we have seen numerous outlets of the bakery chain owned by our son-in-law...

...and tonight we ate our son's restaurant

So far we have enjoyed good weather and the last couple of days have been superb - we are starting to think that we bring the heat wave with us as we travel, and regret the decision made months ago not to worry if the accommodation in the U.K. didn't have air conditioning as we wouldn't need it - it makes a good Tui's ad!
