A Fishing Town & the Cornish Coast

The countryside never fails to please as we travelled further south west today ending up at Botallack which is very near Land's End.

En route we stopped at St Ives, as had the majority of the population together with their dogs, which is a fishing town on the Cornish coast.

I passed the time with a fisherman as I walked along the pier and he commented on what a beautiful day it was - thank god Sherry hadnt dressed for a cold day...

...though in fairness by mid afternoon the temperature would have got into the low 20s and it was a very pleasant afternoon.

It seems that an English holiday is enjoyed most when you can sit and look out to sea even if the tide is out and all you can see is a dry basin

Further along the promenade there were the typical blue and white striped deck chairs available for hire (£3 for one, £5 for two) and these were starting to get quite popular. The tide came in quite quickly and within around 90 minutes the scene had changed to one that we found quiet gorgeous

We left St Ives for Botallack and we don't think the GPS took us on a section of the main road as we were directed through a lot of narrow country lanes - stone walls on both sides or a stone wall on one side and a thick hedge on the other - which made driving a little stressful when faced with an oncoming vehicle. It was a matter of who was going to blink first as the vehicles narrowly missed scraping down the sides.

Our B&B is 10 minutes walk from a National Trust site which is right on the coast and on which stand numerous "historic" old mine sites some of which were used in the filming of Poldark.

We walked out to Wheal Leisure ...

...and then down the coastal path to Wheal Crown which sits very close to the cliff face

Both the weather and the views over the countryside and the Atlantic were absolutely superb and being well away from civilisation (Botallack is a hamlet of no more than 20 houses and the Queens Arm pub) it was a very serene atmosphere

To say that we enjoyed the walk and the day is an understatement!
