Moving day...

...so a relatively quite day.

After rising reasonably early, not that one has many other options given the time the birds start greeting us, and breakfasting etc. we packed for our move out of Copenhagen.

On most other trips by now we would have our self-drive car (but that is not picked up until we leave Geneva) so the move was via bus to the Central Station, an hours wait in the blazing hot sun until bus 999 arrived and then we were away.

The trip to Malmo, Sweden is approximately 60 minutes crossing the strait that separates the two countries via the Øresund Bridge, a toll bridge opened on 1 July 2000 that is the longest combined rail and road bridge in Europe.

The bridge runs nearly 8 kilometres from the Swedish coast to the artificial island Pebetholmin in the middle of the strait. The crossing is completed by the 4 kilometre tunnel from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager - Copenhagen is sited on the islands of Amager and also Zealand.

The bus dropped us off at Mobilia, a shopping centre in south Malmo and we walked the short distance from there to our new digs in a nice residential area.

Later in the afternoon we walked back to the shopping centre to get a feel for our new environment and also what we could expect to pay for essentials (I’m obviously talking coffee and food) while here - at first glance it appears that costs are lower relative to Copenhagen but I’m not sure that that will be a consolation given Sherry tells me that they have “some nice shops here”.

Tomorrow we will walk into the centre of town and see the lay of the land there.
