The home of Sherry

A shortest hop this morning from Sevilla to Jerez de la Frontera which is not far from the south west tip of Spain - Jerez is famous for its sherry production (as well as motorcycle racing and equestrian) and as a consequence Sherry abounds.

We are staying in the Hispotels Sherry Park Hotel, a very nice hotel some 15 minutes walk from the historic area, there are numerous stacks of wine barrels positioned on various plazas around town

and there she was again on a blackboard outside a paniteria!

We ambled around town getting the feel of our new environment and after lunch brought two peaches for 73€ cents (or $NZD1.20) and I kid you not, the peach I had was the nicest peach I have ever had!

All of the fruit we have had has been streets better than any fruit available to us in NZ and the price has generally been cheaper - I'll vote in September's election for the party that has a policy to ensure the best of what we produce is available to us at home and not exported!

Talking of kid, there was one driving the carriage around town this afternoon

which was in the vicinity of a rather impressive "monument" to times past.

After doing a little, in fact a lot of trying on sandals in Sevilla since my mishap, the first shoe shop we went into had sandals of my size and so that search is now over

Not bad for 23€!

Our hotel has a nice outside pool and with town going quiet for siesta time we headed back.

The day in Spain is certainly skewed relative to what we are used to with lunch being from 1-4 and then evening meal from around 8.30 - ????. It was interesting when we walked "home" last night from the Flamenco performance at around 9.45 how alive the town was with bars and restaurants being full to overflowing and the park near our hotel which we had walked through many times and which we would describe at best as non-descript, was full of people at tables (which were never there at the times we had walked through) having drinks and a meal served from what we thought was just an old small building in a park!
