Moving Day

Today we drove from Gibraltar to Grenada, our longest drive so far on the trip - 255 kms, 3.5 hours - but the motorway on which we travelled made it an easy drive, and costly as the tolls were in excess of €20.

We travelled along the Mediterranean coast for quite some distance passing the well known holiday spots for the Brits of Marbella & Malaga and compared to our drive down through Spain the area was quite well populated for the most part with a noticeable change to more resort style housing/settlements alongside the odd golf course - playing golf in 35 degree heat might well be a challenge however.

There was also a change in colouring of the houses from a predominantly clay/brick colour to nearly all white which made the settlements quite eye catching

It is an interesting experience arriving in a new city as inevitably you drive through areas that have not been well looked after, the GPS takes you through streets so narrow that at some corners we have to back the 3008 up to manoeuvre around the corner and you start to form a picture of what the city will be like and typically the picture is not that inspiring.

You then find the accommodation, touch wood every one so far has been up to standard, and after getting the suitcases inside, the 3008 tucked away safely, you step out into the streets not really sure where you are heading. Again the first 20 minutes of strolling around are in areas that are only worth a 10 second glance and then, as if by some ingrained sense of direction, you turn a corner and you have ended up in an area that is bustling with other tourists, has historical monuments/buildings by the truckload to look at or is a main shopping area with a string of high class shops - at this point that picture you had in the head has changed significantly!

The area we ended up in this afternoon was by the Cathedral

and also adjacent to narrow streets where you could buy any souvenir of Granada or Spain that had ever been made

Found a meal in the Plaza de Bib-Rambla (note to self, need to do better tomorrow!!!), then called in at a supermarket before arriving back in the apartment around 8.00pm to reflect on the day.
