Packed up and left Caserta this morning after a not very good sleep but the mind is a little clearer after yesterday’s catastrophe.

At an autostop I tried to report the “event” to a police officer who was in attendance but to no avail - a police report is required for insurance purposes - so that will need to be done here in Rome.

Our digs are around a 15 minute walk from the Vatican so after sorting out (make that tried to sort out) an issue with the apartment facilities we wandered on down (or it maybe up, we have no idea) there and strolled around the square. It truly is a majestic place and is clearly a go to place for anyone coming to Rome.

We didn’t enter St Peter’s as that is something for tomorrow as is sorting out the denuncia as that is what a police complaint is called. On the square spoke to a policeman and found out the location of the nearest station so now we know where to go to get it done.

On the way back to the apartment stopped in at a restaurant that was very nicely set out and had a very good meal (so much so that we might go there again) and enjoyed the banter that one of the waiters had firstly with us and then with other patrons - he thought he was the world’s best comedian and while we wouldn’t go that far he was a lot of fun.

We have one more drive before returning the car - a relatively short one to the airport - and hopefully we have judged the amount of fuel left in the tank so that we don’t have to spend any more on diesel. While we have driven more kilometres than originally estimated the economy of the Peugeot has been such that our diesel spend was over estimated. The 308 is using only 4.2l/100kms!

Hopefully we work out a solution so that we can recommence taking photos - have some thoughts but the proof will be …..
